January 1st; The Journey Starts Here

Bon Soir, mes amis!

I am glad you have joined me. I hope you have a glass of something delicious to sip while I tell you a bit about my new blog. Basically, I decided that I wanted to take 2010, the start of a new year and a new decade, to be the starting point to a new Mimi too. Well, the old me but with new and improved packaging!

While writing my other blog, I realised that it would be wonderful to spend a year not depriving myself in the way that springs to mind when I read all the 'New Year, New You!' covers of magazines...I don't want a year eating lettuce and drinking hot water and running and sweating...urgh. No, no. This is going to be more about cooking my way through Sophie Dahl's 'Miss Dahl's Voluptous Delights', so think pear and ginger spelt muffins for breakfast and organic vegetable curry for tea. Instead of lunch bought from the shop next to the library, I will be taking a lunchbox full of tasty delicious things to nibble on. I will be walking to the bus stop and dancing to the Puppini Sisters. I have a new skin care regime, and will be continuing my pursuit of the perfect mascara that gives me the flutteriest lashes imaginable.

So that is what I am going to be doing, and the why is basically so I can feel as good as I can, and look as good as I can. I suppose I should be a bit more specific in my goals, so I can have something to measure against when we get to December, so refill that glass, and here we are:

Weight I don't want to say how much I have to lose, because although I am happy to share most things, I think I should still have a little mystery. But I will say my goal is 9 stone 13 lbs (139 lbs)and at the lower end of the healthy bmi for my height. This goal is not just about seeing a number on the scale, although I shall be doing a little happy dance when I do, but about being as healthy as I can, feeling good in my skin, wearing clothes that I love (pencil skirts, here I come!) and giving myself a good chance of having a healthy baby when we decide it is time to start a family, as well as living a long and happy life. (Not that you can't be happy and heavier, more that I will be happier if I am not fretting about diabetes and so on.

Diet as in what I eat rather than low calorie low fat etc. Basically, I want to eat delicious food that does me good and makes me feel good. To me that means seasonal, organic where possible, unprocessed but still a treat. For example, the thought of an iceberg-tomato-cucumber salad is dull to me. But give me shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, grilled goats cheese, pine nuts and a hint of dressing and I will be happy. One big thing for me will definitley be taking my own lunch to work and planning ahead.

Skin I don't have bad skin, but I don't have the glow that I used to. Of course, I am now in the second half of my twenties rather than the first, but I think I can get the glow back. To this end I have ordered Liz Earle's Hot Polish cleanser, and the matching toner and moisturiser which I will be using twice a day. I will be taking a skin supplement from Healthspan (it has omega oils and so on to ward off wrinkles) and drinking green tea. I have also got Eva Fraser's book of face exercises that I will trying to master.

Hair My hair is much longer now than it was when I got married, and hair that was much shorter than I wanted after a disasterous cut. It is about collarbone length, but I want it longer, and in great condition. I have started to think about playing with colour too...perhaps a hint lighter in the summer, and a whisper darker in the winter. Straighteners have changed my hair-life, so I am trying to blow dry less to compensate. Now that it is longer, I want to learn how to put it up so I get more out of it.

Polish I am not saying I will never have chipped nail polish or a ladder in my tights again, because frankly, that would be ridiculous, but I do want to spend some time getting all the little details in hand. Red toes, soft hands, and a whisper of perfume when I walk past you.

Fitness and Shape Exercise for me is definitely a means to an end, but I hope I can come to enjoy it for its own sake. But basically, I want a healthy heart, to be the best incubator I can be for any babies that should come along, and to look great in a pencil skirt. I also think that a good circulation is essential for the glow that I want.

I think that's it really...I hope to post on here quite frequently with progress reports, reviews of products, recipes, and so on. I would love it if any of you would like to join me on my fabulous 2010!

  1. I think your goals sound great. Making yourself look and feel good but without depriving yourself is much better in the long run and you certainly seem to have it 'sussed' from the lists above. Happy Two Thousand and Ten! (Like you said its NOT twenty ten) LOL! X
